PASSY
Right, I’m gulping a little bit at this post because there is a lot to say. I’m a big, big fan of Guerlain make up – I just don’t think its okay to knock out flat, dull colours anymore when it is possible to put together creative and innovative ranges that elicit a real emotional response on first sight. While not all brands have the same Guerlain budget, it really is a case of looking and learning, because this is what beauty – to me – is really all about; that initial reaction of absolute longing! The colours of Guerlain Autumn Winter aren’t exceptional particularly – but the way they’re housed and presented is. A series of browns and greys in Ecrin 6 Couleurs cut with a bolt of bright suddenly makes me wish for autumn! Incidentally, the formulas are now boosted with moonstone; naturally lit with silver or blue reflections. Now, because it is a French range, there is the traditional flight of fancy – I quote ‘Its silvery or blue reflections, ensured by its lamellar structure, recall the clarity of the moon. Its special feature; the adularescence phenomenon’. Ur, ok. Whatever. Nonetheless, there’s something about these colours that really are quite captivating.
The packaging is a little story on its own. Chiselled metal latticework with a simply etched bee is designed by India Mahdavi; an award winning designer who has lived in the US, Germany, UK and France and whose family roots are Iranian-Egyptian in origin. When you open the palette, there is a kind of easel effect; a mirror that opens to one side of the palette. And the brush – double ended – is hair, not foam. What more can I say? To me this is just how make up should be. Elegant, exciting and completely desirable. Try not to scream ‘ouch’ when you know they are £51 (from August).
There is also a new blush, four new shades of Rouge G De Guerlain and three of KissKiss Gloss, AND a new foundation; Lingerie De Peau.
